Join us at 7pm in the English Library below the church for a fascinating talk by Rev David Coulter about the inspiring life and faith of Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig.
The life stories of such figures are more than interesting history – they are a powerful way for us to explore how to express our faith, learn how others have faced challenging situations and help us better navigate our Christian journey.
The life of Field Marshall Haig has undergone revision in recent years, moving from being lampooned by those who never knew him (most famously in the film “Oh What a Lovely War” and “Blackadder Goes Forth”) to a debate that remembers the loyalty he inspired in the 200,000 ex-servicemen from the Great War (plus women and children) who filed past his coffin.
As we mark Remembrance Sunday this year, the Reverend David Coulter CB OStJ, whose grandfather served in the Trenches in Flanders, will reveal the less well known story of Field Marshall Haig’s faith and service. Another presentation you mustn’t miss!
David Coulter was a Commissioned Infantry Officer in the Royal Irish and later ordained into the Church of Scotland, and a former Chaplain General.
As always, the talk will be followed by refreshments and a chance to chat with our speaker.
