It has recently come to light that there are two British WWI casualties whose remains are interred in the ossuary and recorded on the war memorial in the cemetery in Monaco. They are :-

Private Arthur C V DYER R.A.M.C

A victim of the torpedoing of SS Transylvania off Savona on 4 May 1917, transporting troops from Marseille to Egypt, and washed ashore in Monaco. SS Transylvania was a British passenger liner which was owned by Anchor Line (a subsidiary of the Cunard Line) and was sunk by a German U-Boat. In total 412 lives were lost.

Captain Leonidas L RALLI A.S.C. (photo above)

Died 20 April 1917 of Bright’s Disease in Monaco.

It is deemed appropriate to have a brass plaque commissioned and installed in St Paul’s Anglican Church in Monte Carlo, alongside others that are already there to commemorate their sacrifice and to ensure they are not forgotten, particularly during the Act of Remembrance that takes place there annually in November.

To this end we are appealing for contributions to assist us.

Donations (however small) would be appreciated and may be given to Padré Bearn in an envelope marked APPEAL or transferred to the Branch bank account (ref: Appeal) – click below for RIB.
