It was a great joy to have the newly consecrated Bishop Suffragan for the diocese in Europe with us over the weekend when the Crypt Choir from Canterbury were here. Accompanied by his wife Amanda, he was able to meet members of the Church Council over lunch in St Paul’s House, which was expertly provided by Mrs Gabi Crump, wife of our esteemed Churchwarden Russell who is an Old Boy from the Bishop’s school. Their visit to Slammers had to be delayed, however, to another visit.

The Bishop attended the Fauré concert and was given a tour of the Principality earlier in the day by the chaplain. The bishop preached and celebrated Holy Communion on Sunday and was supported by Mrs Isobel Hinchliffe, a Reader from the diocese of Manchester who happened to be visiting the Chaplaincy family, who administered the chalice. At post service refreshments he was presented with a Centenary Prayer Bear, a First Day Cover bearing our centenary postage stamp and had his photograph taken with the Sunday School, who had all made mitres under the expert direction of their teachers. The weekend was greatly appreciated by the bishop, enabling him to get a feel for what we are trying to do here at St Paul’s within the Principality. Many thanks for everyone who helped make his visit so memorable. We look forward to welcoming him and his wife again in the future.
