Remembering those who gave their lives for ours is something that St Paul’s and our chaplain are passionate about. Several services and events are held every year to honour those who serve our country and protect our freedoms as well as maintaining links with organisations such as the Nice-Moncao Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Most recently, the chaplain has made contact with Toc H, a Christian organisation whose origins are in the trenches of the First World War where soldiers were inspired to create a better world upon their return. Toc H lives its purpose by helping people across the UK create thriving and safe communities for people to live happy and productive lives. One initiative of Toc H is the Toc H lamps which are burnt at its meetings to remember those who died during the First World War.

St Paul’s has recently obtained one of these lamps thanks to the kind generosity of Toc H. The lamp formerly belonged to William Byland Abbey who died at Ferryhill in February 1928. This year’s Evensong Service on Remembrance Sunday will feature this lamp lit as a small act of remembrance to those who gave their tomorrow for our today.

St Paul’s would like to express its deep thanks and gratitude to Toc H for its generous donation of a lamp. Please support the work of this worthy charity if you are able.
